Guest Speaker - Valerie Crawford-Schiele

Valerie Crawford-Schiele is the Co-founder and CEO of Blue Flowers Org, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in honor of her father Gilbert Eugene Crawford, Sr. who passed away October, 2014 after a 12 year courageous battle from prostate cancer. Valerie and her daughter Shavonn created Blue Flowers Org in December, 2014, committed to providing education, awareness and resources to empower women in supporting the men in their lives in the prevention and treatment of prostate cancer and, ultimately, finding a cure to eradicate the epidemic.
Valerie who is originally from Long Island, New York, comes from a family of educators. She earned her Bachelors of Science degree (BS) in Marketing: Merchandising Management from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City and had a successful career in the fashion industry before going into the family business of education. She holds a Masters of Education degree (M.Ed.) from Cambridge College, Cambridge, MA and an Administrator I Certification in Educational Leadership and Supervision from Coppin State University in Baltimore, MD. She currently teaches high school United States History in the Prince George's County Public Schools system in MD and has mentored hundreds of students in Maryland, Virginia and Georgia.
In July 2014, Valerie was selected as one of 25 educators (out of approximately 300 applicants nationally and internationally) as the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History Fellow (The Age of Lincoln: Teaching Literacy through History) |
