	Bio	Congresswoman Edwards was sworn in after a special election in June 2008, becoming the first African American woman to represent Maryland in Congress. She currently serves on the Subcommittees for Highways and Transit, Water Resources and Environment, and Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management.  Congresswoman Edwards has worked to add Maryland to the Afterschool Suppers Program and ensuring access to youth development programs for schools in low-income areas. Prior to being elected she was co-founder and Executive Director of the National Network to End Domestic Violence.
